Lewis-Palmer School District 38 is proud to serve over 230 students in our English Language Learners (ELL) program. These students have languages other than English in their home or background, and are in the process of developing and refining their academic English proficiency for success in school.

Every school site offers standards-based English Language Development with trained, qualified ELL instructional staff as a part of the regular school day. Students develop their academic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English while being supported with the core content curriculum.

Colorado English Language Assessment
The Colorado Department of Education requires all districts in the state to administer the Colorado English Language Assessment (CELA) each spring. CELA assesses the four language domains as required by NCLB - speaking, listening, reading and writing. Student must test fluent in all four areas to begin the exit process from the ELL program. The testing will begin in January and the schedule is posted below. The test has four sections (reading, writing, speaking and listening) so testing will occur over a period of time so to minimally impact the academic schedule.
