Lewis-Palmer School District 38 is proud to serve over 300 students in our English Language Learners (ELL) program. These students have languages other than English in their home or background, and are in the process of developing and refining their academic English proficiency for success in school.

Every school site offers standards-based English Language Development with trained, qualified ELL instructional staff as a part of the regular school day. Students develop their academic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English while being supported with the core content curriculum.

Lewis Palmer School District ELL Program Exceeds Colorado State Goals
The results are in from the January 2011 Colorado English Language Assessment (CELA). Individual results will be sent to parents in June. Colorado school districts are held accountable to meet two goals. Goal #1 is for 50% of a district's ELL population to make progress - move from Beginner to Early Intermediate, Early Intermediate to Intermediate, Intermediate to Proficient, Proficient to Advanced. LPSD exceeded this goal by 26% - 76.23% of our ELL students made progress, The second goal requires that 6% of a district's ELL population achieve English fluency (an advanced score on the CELA). LPSD exceeded this goal with 54.83% of the ELL population achieving fluency.

We are extremely proud of our ELL students for this success as well as their ELL teachers, classroom teachers and families. Great job!
